Omeruo, NFF debunk Covid-19 reports ahead Super Eagles tie with Algeria

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo and the NFF have dismissed reports that four Super Eagles players tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of Friday’s friendly against Algeria.

The Leganes defender tagged the reports as fake and insisted that the mood in the camp is positive as they await the results of the Covid-19 tests.

“Big game tomorrow against Algeria, coronavirus tests are done and results are not out yet, but everyone in the team is strong. please disregard every fake news. We don’t have our results yet so there are no positives in the camp.” Omeruo said.

Nigeria Football Federation also urged the public to disregard the reports and added that the writer of the article misquoted Gernot Rohr.

“Please discountenance any reports that some of our players tested positive to COVID 19 ahead of tomorrow’s friendly game against Algeria. It is a blatant falsehood,” reads a statement on the NFF’s official Twitter handle.

“The writer of the story, who was not part of the press conference earlier today, totally misrepresented what Coach Rohr said that since the outbreak of the pandemic, four of our players had tested positive, but were all now fully recovered from the virus and back in action.

The Super Eagles will lock horns with Algeria at the Worthersee Stadium, Klagenfurt on Friday, before facing Tunisia at the Jacques Lemans Arena next week Tuesday.
