Former youth international Loveday Omoruyi has pointed to the lack of structure in Nigerian youth football as a key factor behind the poor performances of the country’s teams in age-grade competitions.

In an interview with Brila.net, Omoruyi highlighted inadequate preparation as a major reason Nigeria is struggling to discover new talents for future representation.

“Without proper structure, the building is bound to collapse,” Omoruyi remarked.

“How can you appoint a coach in April for a major competition the next month and then blame the coach? Is he supposed to perform miracles?”

Omoruyi also discussed the impact of MRI testing on player selection.

“After selection, many players were disqualified by MRI tests. An experienced coach like Manu Garba should have had players undergo MRI tests before camp to avoid wasting time.

“This disrupted his program, so I don’t blame Manu Garba.”

He further criticized the lack of continuous preparation saying, “We should start preparations now for future competitions.

“Instead, we go to sleep and scramble to prepare two months before tournament qualifiers. That’s our problem.”
