Onuachu grabs brace in Genk’s defeat to Royal Antwerp

Super Eagles star  Paul Onuachu grabbed a brace for Genk, but it was not enough to earn them a point against Royal Antwerp at the Bosuil Stadion on Saturday night.

Onuachu scored twice in the 22nd and 64th minutes to put Genk in perfect conditions for the maximum points, but a late fightback from the home side saw them snatch all three points.

Paul Onuachu scored his first goal in the 24th minutes of the encounter after collecting a beautiful pass from his teammate.

The 26-year-old added the second from a penalty to put his side 2-0 up against their hosts in the 64th minute.

The brace took Onuachu’s tally this season to 31 in 35 matches in all competitions for both club and country.

He has 28 goals in the Belgian Jupiler league, one in the Belgian cup, and also notched two goals for the national team in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Benin Republic and Lesotho respectively.

The former Midtjylland striker also has two assists to his name to make it 33 goals involvement.

Onuachu was replaced by his compatriot Cyriel Dessers in the 67th and that was the beginning of the turnaround for Genk in the match.

The hosts reduced the deficit through  Didier Lamkel Ze a few minutes after Onuachu’s exit, before Dieumerci Mbokani and Dylan Batubinsika scored in the added time to complete the comeback.
