Onuachu’s late winner helps Super Eagles end Benin Republic unbeaten home record

Nigeria defeated the Squirrels of Benin Republic 1-0 in their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Saturday.

Substitute Paul Onuachu scored the winner in addition time to hand the three-time African champions a hard fought three points at the Stade Charles De Gaulle Stadium.

 

The victory means the Super Eagles ended a run of four matches without a win in all competitions.

 

Nigeria also became the first country to record a win away at Benin Republic since June 2013, ending the Squirrels’ run of 17 home matches without defeat in all competitions.

 

The Super Eagles have also extended their run over Benin Republic to six consecutive victory in all competitions.

 

Gernot Rohr’s side will now wrap up their qualifying campaign against Lesotho in Lagos on Tuesday.
