Onyekuru relishes playing in Lagos for the first time

Super Eagles striker Henry Onyekuru is relishing Nigeria’s qualifications for the 2022 African Cup of Nations after back to back win over the Benin Republic and Lesotho.

Super Eagles defeated the Benin Republic 1-0 on Saturday, before thrashing the Crocodiles of Lesotho 3-0 in the last Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match on Tuesday.

The match against Lesotho was played at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos and it was the first time the team will play a competitive match in the commercial city in over 20 years.

Goals from Victor Osimhen, Oghenekaro Etebo, and Paul Onuachu were enough to make the homecoming a memorable one for the team.

An excited Onyekuru took to social media to celebrate the win.

“This international break has been amazing, qualifying for Afcon and a victory in my home city Lagos! 🇳🇬🦅 “he posted on Twitter.

Onyekuru who is currently on loan to Galatasaray from AS Monaco featured in both matches and recorded an assist.
