Oriental Derby win excites Rangers Boss Maikaba

Enugu Rangers Coach Abdul Maikaba was full of praise for his players following their comeback derby win over Heartland on Saturday.

Rangers humbled fierce neighbors 3-1 in an ‘Oriental Derby’, despite going between inside the opening 13 minutes.

 

The visitors took a surprise lead 13 minutes into the game and against the run of play when Monday Yakubu benefited from a slip-up at the Flying Antelopes backline.

 

He simply had to stab home the game’s curtain raiser and send the few travelling fans of the Owerri side into wild celebrations.

 

Nonetheless, Rangers shrugged it off and found their equalised ten minutes later, thanks to an emphatic finish from Ossy Martins.

 

They took over the tie when when Shedrack Asiegbu drilled home the second in the 40th minute.

 

Eso Achibong then sealed the win with what could be a contender for goal-of-the-season in time added-on .

 

The 2016 Champions have now done a double over their neighbors this season after winning the first leg 3-0 in Owerri in the reverse fixture.

 

An elated coach Abdul Maikaba said after the encounter, that his Players showed determination and didn’t cave in after conceding early.

 

“It was a tough match against a difficult side but I praise the efforts of my boys who despite going down at a point did not lower their guards but took the fight to our opponents, creating several chances and taking some.

 

“The result no doubt, put us where we want to be going into the last round of matches and hopefully, we shall achieve our target at the end of the season,” Maikaba concluded.
