Victor Osimhen has become only the third Nigerian to win the UNFP Trophees player of the month award.
Osimhen joined the exclusive list when he emerged winner of the Ligue Un player of the month for September.
The 20 year-old beat AS Monaco and Algeria’s Islam Slimani and Nantes Nicolas Pallois after votes were polled.
He scored 45% while Slimani and Pallois garnered 37% and 18% respectively.

Osimhen thus becomes the third Nigerian – and second outfield player – besides John Utaka and Vincent Enyeama to win the prestigious award.
In February of 2006, Rennes Striker Utaka won the award and it will be another seven seasons before another Nigerian claimed the honor.
Enyeama picked back to back monthly awards in 2013 – October and November – and remains the only Nigerian to win multiple UNFP Player of the Month awards.
If Osimhen continues his impressive goalscoring form he could be in contention for another gong and thus tie Enyeama should he emerge winner.
