Victor Osimhen delivered a record breaking performance on Wednesday evening as Galatasaray secured a comprehensive 3–0 victory over Trabzonspor in the Turkish Cup final.

The match got off to a swift start, with Turkish international Barış Yılmaz opening the scoring in the 5th minute, assisted by Yunus Akgün.

Galatasaray extended their lead just 50 seconds into the second half through Osimhen, who scored from a difficult angle on the right hand side, again assisted by Akgün with a precise through ball.

Osimhen added his second of the match later in the half, finishing a well executed counterattack. Akgün, who played a key role throughout, provided the assist for all three goals.

The win secured Galatasaray’s 19th Turkish Cup title, marking their first triumph in the competition since the 2018/19 season.

With his brace, Osimhen has now scored 35 goals in all competitions this season, surpassing Mario Jardel’s long standing record to become the highest scoring foreign player in a single season in Galatasaray’s history.

That record had stood for 24 years.

Currently on loan from Italian club Napoli, the Nigerian forward has featured in 39 matches for Galatasaray this season, accumulating 42 goal contributions, with 35 goals and 7 assists.

He also leads the Turkish Super Lig scoring chart with 24 goals in 28 matches.

Osimhen’s outstanding form has placed him among the leading contenders for the 2025 CAF African Player of the Year Award.

His performances have also attracted attention amid growing speculation regarding his future beyond the current campaign.
