Osimhen joins Exclusive Group after Goal scoring Heroics in 10-0 thumping of Sao Tome

José Peseiro led Nigeria to its biggest victory in International Men’s football, following the 10-0 win against São Tomé in Morocco, at the ongoing 2023 AFCON Qualifiers.

The win is Nigeria’s biggest ever victory since the 10-1 win against Benin Republic in November 1959.

It ended a 63-year record and at the heart of the historical game was Victor Osimhen, who scored four times and assisted two goals.

With the haul in the game, the Forward also becomes the fastest player to reach 15 goals for the Super Eagles, beating Rashidi Yekini’s record.

Osimhen reached the number in just 22 matches, 10 fewer games than Rashidi Yekini’s record.

The 23-year-old also became the third player ever to score 4+ goals in a Super Eagles match.

The first to do it was Elikana Onyeali, who netted four out of the 10-1 bashing of Dahomey (now the Benin Republic) in 1959.

Yekini became the second player to score four goals in a single match back in 1992.

The gangling striker scored four times against Burkina Faso in the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers, the Burkinabe lost the game by 7-1.

Meanwhile, He remains Nigeria’s all time top scorer with 37 goals in 58 appearances for the Super Eagles.
