This week was a huge let down for Nigerian players in Europe after all were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League.

On Tuesday, Victor Osimhen’s Napoli lost the UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie against AC Milan despite the 1-1 draw in the second leg at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

AC Milan, the reigning Serie A champions, advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament after emerging 2-1 on aggregate.

In the Europa League, Victor Boniface and his Union SG teammates were unable to continue their journey in the competition, as they fell 4-1 in the second leg by Bayer Leverkusen.

The tie ended 6-3 on aggregate and in Leverkusen’s favor. Boniface scored a stunner in the first leg which led to a 2-2 draw.

Unfortunately, despite impressive performances in their respective first-leg matches, Terem Moffi and Gift Orban did not make it to the Europa Conference League semi-finals.

Moffi had earned the Goal of the Week award for his stunning acrobatic strike in the first leg, but OGC Nice lost 2-1 at the Allianz Riviera, resulting in a 4-3 aggregate defeat.

Similarly, West Ham defeated Orban’s KAA Gent 4-1 in the second leg at the London Stadium. The first-leg ended 1-1 in Ghent.
