Victor Osimhen ended his goal drought as he found the target for Napoli against Bologna, in Sunday’s Serie A match.
Osimhen has struggled for form and fitness since his arrival from Lille Metropole of France in a club record deal last summer.
The 21-year-old missed Napoli’s last three games due to the head injury he sustained against Atalanta, few days after returning from shoulder injury that sidelined him for more than six weeks.
The Super Eagles forward was named amongst the substitute for the match against Bologna at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium, but he was thrown into the thick of the action seven minutes after the restart.
Captain Lorenzo Insigne gave the Azzurri an early lead when he scored in the 8th minutes, thanks to an assist from Piotr Zielinski.
Osimhen took the place of Belgian forward Dries Mertens in the 53rd minutes and scored his goal ten minutes, off another assist from Piotr Zielinski.
Osimhen has now scored three goals for Napoli his season with his last coming on 8th November 2020 against the same side.
The former Wolfsburg man almost got his second minutes later when he was teed up by Insigne, but he missed the target from close range with goal at his mercy.
The miss gave Bologna some hope and Roberto Soriano went on to reduce the deficit in the with 18 minutes left to play.
Insigne scored his second goal late on to seal the three points for the Gennaro Gattuso’s side .
Napoli are now sixth on the league table with 47 points from 25 matches.
