Former Super Eagles midfielder, Christian Obodo has weighed in on the ongoing transfer speculation surrounding the future of Victor Osimhen.

Speaking on Brila.net, Obodo highlighted that major European clubs view the Napoli striker’s high release clause and salary expectations as a significant financial risk.

“I know Osimhen would still like to play European football and achieve a lot,” Obodo stated, “but the clause Napoli put on him and his wages is scaring clubs away. The clubs do not want to make a decision that will bounce back and make them regret.”

Despite links to major European clubs such as Manchester United, Juventus, Arsenal, and Chelsea, these clubs are reportedly reluctant to match Osimhen’s full clause and his high wage expectations.

Al Hilal, however, stands out by being ready to meet these demands with offers reaching €40 million net per season.

Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations continue to constrain European teams, unlike the Saudi Pro League clubs backed by vast state wealth.

“Nigeria does not package their players well. If Osimhen was Brazilian, they (European top clubs) would have signed since. The way some Nigerians talk about their countrymen is not fair,” Obodo added.

“For me, it is left for Osimhen to compromise if he wants to stay in Europe or go to Al Hilal for the wages. Whatever decision he makes, we should just pray he does not make the wrong decision.”

Following a stellar loan spell with Galatasaray, during which he was the Turkish Süper Lig’s top scorer with 26 goals and helped secure the league title, Osimhen faces a significant decision regarding his future.

Victor Osimhen’s contract with Napoli was extended in December 2023 and runs until June 2026.
