Osimhen shrugs off Capocannoniere award talk

Victor Osimhen has warned his teammates against complacency as they continue to chase dream Scudetto.

Osimhen scored a goal as the Partenopei recorded a 3-2 victory over Udinese at the Maradona Stadium on Saturday.

Napoli went into half time with a 3-0 lead, but the visitors produced a better performance in the second half as they scored twice to narrow the margin.

“I think this game was really intense, especially the second half. We played as a team to get the three points, the most important thing is to keep going and remember no game is easy, so we did great,” Osimhen told DAZN.

This goal was the Nigerian’s second consecutive headed goal after the winner against Atalanta.

“I’m happy about the goal, Eljif gave me a great assist. I am happy to contribute and we want to keep the momentum going.”

With nine Serie A goals in 11 games, Osimhen is leading the race for the Capocannoniere title (top scorer award) in Serie A this season, but the Nigerian isn’t desperate to win it.

“That is not for me, I don’t put myself before the team or my individual ambition. It is a team sport and I want to win trophies with this team. If I win Capocannoniere, I’ll be happy, but the important thing is the team wins.”

Napoli are 11 points clear at the top of the table after 11 consecutive Serie A victories – awaiting Milan and Lazio results.
