Osimhen’s Napoli sent Ndidi and Leicester City out of Europa League

Wilfred Ndidi was in action for Leicester City in their final Europa League game against Napoli at the Diego Maradona’s stadium on Thursday.

With Covid and illness keeping the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Ayoze Perez, and Ademola Lookman at home, Ndidi played all minutes, but couldn’t save his team from going down 3-2 to the Italians who are still without Victor Osimhen.

Adam Ounas gave Napoli the lead inside the opening four minutes after capitaling on a mistake from Youri Tielemans, and fired to the bottom corner.

It became 2-0 to Napoli 20 minutes later, after Andrea Petagna beat the  Leicester defence before unselfishly teeing up Elmas for a tap -in.

However, Jonny Evans reduced the deficit almost immediately, when he smash home the loose ball from eight yards out after James Maddison’s free-kick had struck a defender.

Leicester were level after 33 minutes, when Dewsbury-Hall volleyed the ball into the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

The Foxes conceded the third after 53 minutes when Elmas grabbed his second goal of the night. The striker controlled Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s cross before firing the goalkeeper.

The Foxes were not creating chance and almost grabbed an equaliser in the 82nd minutes. James Maddison wiggled his way into the box, but his shot crashed against the post.

Following the defeat, Leicester slipped to third place and headed into the Europa Conference League.

In the other group game, Spartak Moscow recorded a 1-0 win against Legia Warsaw, with the Russian club topping the table.
