Ossy Martins nets 30th NPFL career goal

Ossy Martins was on target for Rangers in their 3-0 win over Kwara United on Sunday.

The striker stole the show as Rangers bounced back to winning ways at the Awka City Stadium, Awka, after their disappointing defeat against Niger Tornadoes.

Ossy Martins grabbed a brace with Chidiebere Nwobodo getting the other in an eighteen-minute blitz of quality football from the home side and slip-ups from the visitors.

Goalkeeper, Emmanuel Iwu failed to handle a Shedrack Asiegbu’ well drilled shot from the edge of the box and Ossy Martins reacted the fastest to the spilled ball to stab home the opening goal of the encounter in four minutes.

And at the quarter-hour mark, another slip from the keeper gifted Chidiebere Nwobodo the opportunity to increase the tally for the home side.

On 18 minutes, Ossy Martins scored his second of the day when he was expertly set up by Chukwuebuka Okorie from the edge of the box as the defenders failed to spot the danger.

That’s Ossy Martins’ 30th career goal in the NPFL and his 9th of the current campaign.

Despite creating more opportunities to harvest more goals, the substitute goalkeeper for the visitors, Abdulateef Ishola did well to keep the scoreline the way he met it as both sides retired for the first half.

Ossy Martins had opportunities to further punish the ‘Afonja Warriors’ with more goals and score a hat-trick, but was denied by the goalkeeper, Ishola.

The victory moved Rangers back to the third position temporarily.
