Former Nigeria captain and 1980 AFCON winner Segun Odegbami believes the current board of the Nigeria Football Federation have failed and called for urgent immediate changes.
Odegbami, during an interview on Brila FM’s No Holds Barred with former Super Eagles LB, insists the administrators have nothing more to offer Nigeria football.
“They have good intentions, but lacks the experience to run the game better,” He said.
“We are not making progress at all levels. They have offered their best for eight years but it not enough. We need new people to come in and make the difference. We have good people here.”
Odegbami stressed further by calling for a rules change that will open up the field to more qualified individuals to aspire for positions in the next NFF elections.
He faulted the current constitution of the Federation, which gives only State Football Association Chairman the right to vote and be voted for.
“The issue is not that ex internationals should contest by all means, but because you play the game doesn’t mean you are going to be a good administrator.
“But ex internationals should be given their chance, and the constitution of NFF has been bastardized. We don’t even understand it anymore.”
“The people who are voting are not even club owners and they don’t have what it takes. They are 34 of the 44 delegates.
“In Ivory Coast, it was club owners that voted, not just state football associations. Football clubs must dominate the board members not just state FA Chairman. That’s how it’s done everywhere.”
“The coaches, referee and players union are supposed to be members of the Board of the NFF,” He concluded.
