Nigeria’s Olajide Omotayo lost in the Round of 64 of the men’s singles table tennis event, suffering a 4-1 defeat to Iran’s Noshad Alamiyan.

Omotayo won the opening set 11-6 but was unable to maintain his advantage as Alamiyan secured the subsequent four sets with scores of 11-5, 11-4, 12-10, and 11-8.

Omotayo has now failed to go beyond the first round in his two Olympics appearance, he bowed out of Tokyo Olympics four years ago at same stage.

Nigerian players Offiong Edem and Fatimo Bello are scheduled to compete in the women’s singles on Sunday and Monday, respectively.
