Super Eagles gaffer Jose Peseiro says, he sees no reason the Nigeria Football Federation should fire him, after losing at home to lowly rated Guinea-Bissau.
The Portuguese insists his job is not under threat, stating the Super Eagles still have their faith in their hands, in spite of the 1-0 home defeat to Guinea Bissau.
The result, secured by a first-half strike from Mame Balde, took the Djurtus top of Group A on seven points, with the Super Eagles slipping to second on six points.
The defeat however means the Super Eagles have now lost their last four games, with just two wins from seven games.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Peseiro said no way his job should be under a threat because his squad is still in a position to qualify for 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
“I don’t understand why I will be sacked. We are still in the position for qualification for the AFCON. Today (Friday), the players could not score, but I believe in this team, we are much better than this result.
“Before, they played against big teams to improve the team, today, I think they deserve much more,
“Our team created opportunities and in the second half, they put Guinea-Bissau on the back foot, they scored one goal, and we could have scored five or six goals.”
“I am sad but it will be worse if my team didn’t play well, they played well. They created good opportunities and if we had scored, we will beat them 4-0.
The teams will meet for the return-leg of the Group A match at the Estadio 24 de Setembro in Bissau on Monday, March 27.
