Picking the final squad for Mexico friendly was difficult – Eguaveon

Home Based Super Eagles handler Austin Eguaveon said it wasn’t easy picking the final squad for the friendly game with Mexico.

26 players were invited to camp in Abuja, but only 22 of them made the trip to United States of America for the game.

Eguaveon and his assistant Paul Aigbogun worked with the players for almost a week, before jetting out of the country on Wednesday.

Speaking before leaving the country for the match, Eguaveon who lead Nigeria to a third lace finish at the 2008 African Cup of Nations in Egypt, said it was difficult to pick the final squad for the game.

“It has not been easy because it has been very tough. You know when people criticize you, you should be able to accept it once you are in this job. But objective criticisms are welcome. But Again, this job is open to criticism anyway.”

The Nigeria Football Federation technical director added that players have improved after days hard work in training sessions.

” Yes, there have lots of improvement, am not saying that they weredown there before but up there, but we also want to let them knowhow we want to play and trying to figure out what position is bestfor each player as well.” He said.

The match between the El tri of Mexico and Nigeria will played on the 3rd of July in Los Angeles, USA.
