Commonwealth Gold medalist and Para Athletes captain, Folashade Oluwafemiayo has urged the Nigerian government to invest in Athletes’ preparation for major tournaments.
In a chat with BRL, the Heavyweight Para powerlifting world record holder revealed that adequate preparation and early camping are key to sustained success.
Oluwafemiayo stressed the need for Athletes to keep up with the standards of out of competition preparation in order to stay competitve.
“I will say the government should continue backing us up whenever we have any competition coming, they should prepare us for it, they should put us in early camp, so that we will go and make the nation proud again.
“I will keep on preparing for the next competition because as a champion some people are there working on my record, so I have to buckle up and give more.”
Folashade Oluwafemiayo clinched gold medal for Nigeria in the women’s heavyweight para powerlifting event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
She broke the world record after lifting 130, 150 and 155 kilograms to score a cumulative 123.4 points to bag gold.
