Flying Eagles winger Success Makanjuola says he is only interested in helping his team to bring happiness to Nigerians rather than getting carried away with an individual award.
Makanjuola was on the only shining in the Flying Eagles team that drew 1-1 with Ukraine in their last Group D game on Thursday, as Nigerians endured another torrid time watching the team.
The young winger was named Man Of The Match by FIFA at the end of the game, despite playing for 87 minutes in his first start for the team last night.
Speaking after the game Makanjuola said “Am really not too bothered about the individual accolade, for now, I’m only concern about helping the team to do well and am happy that the entire team put up a good fight and we achieved our goal which is making it to the knock out round “
The player admits the team has to put up a big fight if they are to remain in the competition beyond the round of 16.
” The knock out round is a different level altogether and so our focus now is to prepare well to make Nigerians happy because we know they were not happy when we lost to the U.S.
We are not even thinking of the team we will play in the next round, we just want to be at our best when the match comes and the coaches are working hard to get us in perfect shape for the next round”.
