Quadri Aruna says he is desperate to win this year’s ITTF African Championship in Algeria.

The highest ranked player in Africa last won the tournament in 2018 and will face Egypt’s Mohamed Shouman in the men’s singles round of 16 later today.

“I’ve not won the Africa Championship since my last one in 2018, but I’m happy that I played in all finals as well as 2018,” Quadri said ahead of the clash against Shouman.

“It will be good to win the title this year, and I’m looking forward to it. I’ll give my best.

“The motivation for me is that I’m representing Nigeria and as usual, I want to give my heart and soul for my country.”

To emerge as Champion, Aruna Quadri will have to get past Egyptian star Omar Assar, who is the top seed.

Assar will open his campaign in the men’s singles against Edvane Neto of Angola later today.
