Rangers back in contention for League title

Rangers moved into the top three after Saturday’s NPFL win over Heartland at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

Abdullahi Maikaba guided his side to an emphatic 3-1 win against their regional rivals who are languishing in the relegation waters.

Monday Yakubu broke the deadlock for the visitors with just 12 minutes into the clash, but Rangers fought back to turn things around.

Ossy Martins restored parity for Rangers with a fine striker in 22nd minute, before Shedrack Asiegbu made it 2-1 five minutes before the break.

Eso Archibong killed off any hope of a come back for Heartland when he scored the Flying Antelopes’ third in added time.

The win moved Rangers to within 1o points of League leaders, Rivers United, although they’ve played a game more.

In the other game played on Saturday, Remo Stars lost 2-0 to Abia Warriors, Yakub Hammed and Valentine Odoh both scored in the 61st and 80th minutes respectively.
