Rangers Boss reacts to Leon Balogun red card

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has reacted to the sending off of CB Leon Balogun in the Scottish Premiership League match against Motherwell on Saturday.

Balogun was shown a straight red in the 28th minute, Rangers were ahead 1-0 but were tied level by the hosts seven minutes after the sending off.

The Nigerian’s tackle was adjudge dangerous play when he caught Dean Cornelius’s shin, but the replay showed it was a minimal contact.

“I mean obviously they are two tackles both with the intention to win the ball,” van Bronckhorst said during his post match presser.

“We just have to accept the red card we had. We couldn’t do anything about it. It is the decision of the ref and we had to go on.

“I concentrated more on how to play and eventually it gave us the win.”

Eventually, Rangers went to win 3-1, Scott Wright (47′) restored the lead while James Tavanier’s 62nd minute penalty put the result beyond doubt.

Meanwhile, Leon Balogun will now miss the important clash against Celtic — a potential title decider on Sunday May 1.

However, he will be available when Rangers come up against German side RB Leipzig in the Europa League semi-final first leg on Thursday April 28.
