The UEFA Super Cup is an annual showpiece contested by the reigning champions of the two main European club competitions – the Champions League and the Europa League.

Real Madrid beat Liverpool 3-1 to lift Europe’s top prize last season while Atletico Madrid got the better of Marseille to claim the Europa League title.

Today’s encounter between the two Madrid is the 43rd edition of the event but it marks the first time that both sides have come from the same city.

Simeone has admitted his new-look side must find their feet quickly ahead of the start of the new La Liga season.

Speaking after Atletico Madrid’s 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan in the International Champions Cup, Simeone said: “This serves for our preparation, for our players to get some playing time and to prepare in the best way for Wednesday.

New Real Madrid head coach Julen Lopetegui says he is comfortable with the expectation that Spanish giants win every trophy they contest.

“There is not more pressure because it is against Atletico Madrid, it is a final and a trophy which means that we will give everything, we are obliged to win everything,” he said.

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid kicks off at 8pm GMT on Wednesday, August 15.

The match takes place at Lillekula Stadium in Tallinn, Estonia, and will be referred by Szymon Marciniak.

Real Madrid 0-1 Atletico Madrid
