Red Star Belgrade sends Egbo’s KF Tirana out of UEFA Champions League

Ndubuisi Egbo’s quest to become the first African manager to manage a game in the UEFA Champions League group stage suffered a big blow as his team, KF Tirana was knocked off the competition on Tuesday.

Ndubuisi Egbo’s KF Tirana bowed out of this season’s UEFA Champions League, after they lost 1-0 to Serbia’s Red Star Belgrade, in the second round qualifiers.

FK Tirana had a great game, but they were not clinical enough against the much more experienced Star Belgrade who bounced back from their slow start to win the tie.

Red Star’s Tomane scored the only goal of the game in the 62nd minute which ended FK Tirana incredible journey in the competition.

It would be recalled that Egbo oversaw KF Tirana victory over Georgia’s Dinamo Tbilisi 2-0 in the first round of the qualifiers.

He became the first African manager to lead a team out in the competition at that time.

The former Super Eagles goalkeeper is also the first African win a European title after helping his club to the Albanian League crown last season.
