Rivers United move top of Group B, Inflict first home defeat on Motema Pembe

Paul Acquah scored the winner to hand the Nigerian Champions, Rivers United, a needed victory against Motema Pembe in their third game of the ongoing CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.

The Pride of Rivers finished the game with ten players as captain Ebube Duru was shown a red card in the group B matchday 3 tie at the Estádio 11 de Novembro stadium in Talatona, Angola.

The LB was sent off after a second yellow card was shown, with only 3 minutes before half time break.

Haven lost their first away game in the Group to Diables Noirs, Rivers United were determined to get something out of the clash against Motema Pembe.

The Stanley Eguma’s side made their intentions known from the first blast of the whistle, pressing and contesting every Motema move.

Ghanaian winger, Acquah found the back of the net from a rebound in the 52nd minute after his initial header was blocked by the goalkeeper.

Rivers United’s win inflicted a first home defeat in the CAF Confederation Cup this season on the Les Immaculés.

Rivers United moved top of Group B with six points from 3 matches.

Stanley Eguma’’s side will now turn their focus to Saturday’s NPFL clash against Abia Warriors in Umuahia.
