Rohr explains Awoniyi’s omission from Super Eagles squad

Super Eagles Head Coach, Gernot Rohr insisted that Taiwo Awoniyi was omitted from his squad for the Upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying match against Liberia and Cape Verde for football reasons.

Awoniyi was overlooked by the former Gabon boss, despite scoring five goals in six appearances for Union Berlin in the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal this season.

Rohr decided to stick with his trusted choice of Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu, along with FC Lorient forward Terem Moffi.

Speaking at the pre-match conference this Thursday afternoon, Rohr said, Awoniyi is a good player who will get his chances, but he has picked the players that suits the team at the moment.

“There are people people calling for Awoniyi and for other players. We can only invite three striker, so we already have Osimhen, Paul Onuachu and Terem Moffi.”

“Kelechi Iheanacho is also available, which makes it difficult for Awoniyi. He’s a good player, he will surely get his chance. ” He said.
