Russia 2018: Zambia’s chances are slim, says Bwalya

Former Zambia star, Kalusha Bwalya has ruled out the chances of the Chipolopolo qualifying for next year’s FIFA World Cup billed to be hosted by Russia.

The Wedson Nyirenda-tutored side are currently third on the log in Group B, five points behind table toppers Nigeria who have six points from two games.

Meanwhile, African champions Cameroon have just two points, and with just one team that will make it to the soccer showpiece next year, Kalusha believes the chances of Zambia are slim.

“It is difficult for me to speak about Zambia; I’m no more there at the moment but it is a difficult position we find ourselves with just one point.

“Five points is a big difference, it’s not easy and a team from my experience with 12-13 points will qualify for the World Cup.

“So, this is the reality- the team in front already has the points in the pocket. Nigeria already has six points, and even Algeria are thinking of bouncing back,” Kalusha told AOIFootball.com

Zambia play Algeria in back-to-back games in 10 days, between August and September when the qualifiers resume.
