Sunshine Stars FC boost their hope of beating relegation with a 2-1 win over visiting Abia Warriors at the Ondo State Sports Complex. 

Fresh from their 4-1 defeat to Rangers in Enugu last weekend, the Owena Whales delivered spectacular first half performance to see off dangerous Abia Warriors.

In the 15th minute, Sadeeq Yusuf missed glorious opportunity to open the scoring when he miscued a shot in front of goal.

Few minutes later Abia Warriors’ goalkeeper Vicent Edafe made two key saves to deny birthday boy, Ifegwu Ojukwu.

Sadeeq Yusuf made amendment for his miss five minutes later when he slotted home from a failed clearance for his 10th goal of the season. 

Abia Warriors almost equalised immediately after the restart , but goalkeeper Saliu Suileiman denied Godwin Obaje from close range . 

Sunshine Stars wer forced to make two changes in the first half , Michael Olalusi and Captain Sunday Abe were replaced due to injury.

With three minutes left in the first half, Abia Warrios restored parity when Paul Samson who bundled home at the near post from a deflected ball.

Abia Warriors’ equaliser however lasted for two minutes as Sadeeq Yusuf restored his side’s lead with his second of the game.

In the 65th minute, substitute Kazeem Obanigba almost extend the lead but his deflected effort missed the target by a whisker. 

Abia Warriors piled late pressure Sunshine Stars, but the coach Deji Ayeni boys did enough to see saw off the contest.

Sunshine Stars, have now won at home for the second successive game after ending their poor run of results.

Sunshine Stars next visit Kwara United on match day 29.
