Sadiq fails to shine in Real Sociedad’s historic win at Old Trafford

Sadiq Umar was in action for Real Sociedad in their Europa League clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

Umar who scored on his debut for Sociedad against Atletico Madrid last weekend was handed his first start, but failed to make the most of it.

The Nigerian however struggled to make a solid impact at Old Trafford and was hauled off at the end of the first half.

Before his substitution, he had no shot on target and gave the ball away on numerous occasions.

He had just 14 touches in the first half, completed 1 dribble and lost possession four times.

The decision to replace him with Alexander Sorloth proved to be the right one as Sociedad became more purposeful in the attack and eventually found a breakthrough.

Real were awarded a penalty after Lisandro Martinez was adjudged to have stopped David Silva’s shot with his hand in the 59th-minute.

Brais Mendez stepped forward and converted the kick to give Real Sociedad their first victory over Manchester United and ended their poor away record in England.
