Salisu Yusuf confident Olympic Eagles will edge Tanzania in Ibadan

Salisu Yusuf said he’s proud of his team following the result from their first-leg, Africa U23 Cup of Nations qualifier in Tanzania over the weekend.

The gaffer watched his team play a 1-1 draw with their Tanzanian counterparts at Dar es Salaam on Saturday.

Success Makanjuola gave the Olympic Eagles the lead from penalty spot, before the hosts drew level deep in the second half.

Salisu Yusuf however blamed fatigue for the draw, adding that the team had little or no time to prepare for the game.

“Though we didn’t have time to prepare, we only have 3 to 4 sessions before the game, but I think we were able to create a team that at least no matter the situation can withstand the opposition.

“The most important thing is that we didn’t lose the game, the players worked so hard, and I believe they will continue to develop as we go on in the competition.

“I also believe that the next game will be better than the previous game.”

“What happened in that game is as a result of fatigue because of the stress we went through during the travels, we arrived in Dar es Salaam around 8am and entered the hotel around 11am,” He said.

Nigeria will host the second leg this weekend at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
