Finidi George has been tasked to qualify Nigeria for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following confirmation of his appointment as Super Eagles head Coach.

On Monday, an official NFF statement confirmed Finidi will replace Jose Peseiro on a permanent basis having served in interim capacity.

Though the terms of the contract was not stated, the 52 year-old is expected to get Nigeria’s World Cup qualification campaign back on track after a slow start.

Nigeria sits in third place behind Rwanda and South Africa with two points from as many games.

In June, Finidi’s real tests will come in the shape of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finalists, South Africa and a modest Benin Republic national teams.
