Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi was on parade for West Bromwich Albion in their Skybet Championship victory over Queens Park Rangers at the end of Hawthorns on Friday.
Ajayi played from start to finish as the Baggies secured narrow 2-1 win over their visitors to move to the top of the table.
Ajayi started in right side of three man defense along with Kyle Bartley and Conor Townsend.
The trio combined well and kept QPR attackers at bay, after Andre Gray had given Rangers the lead inside 45 seconds.
Gray raced onto Moses Odubajo’s pass, beat the offside trap, and Sam Johnstone before ruling his low shot into the unguarded net.
West Bromwich Albion managed to secure a come back win, thanks to two late Karlan Grant goals.
The Valerien Ismael’s men return to the top of the division as a result of the hard fought victory.
After the game, West Brom’s coach Valerien Ismael, congratulated Ajayi and his teammates for the important win.
“Congratulations to the guys. I think they showed another mentality.
“We were ruthless in the right moments. It was a difficult game, but this is the Championship and now we are top of the table for 24 hours, at least. It’s a great feeling. We won our game, but now we need to prepare for the next game against Cardiff on Tuesday.”
