Sheyi Ojo joins Reims on loan from Liverpool

Sheyi Ojo, Liverpool’s 21-year-old winger, has joined Stade de Reims today on a season-long loan after signing a new extended deal at Liverpool.

Ojo joined Liverpool in 2011, with the Reds signing the then promising 14-year-old from MK Dons academy for an undisclosed fee believe to be around £2M.

It remains an exceptional fee to pay for such a young player, and Liverpool remain hopeful of his development.

Still, Ojo hasn’t yet made the strides some of the club’s other prospects in his age bracket have, and a season in France’s first division now—with a side that will have to battle to avoid falling into the relegation places—is going to be key to his future.

Ojo spent parts of the 14-15 and 15-16 seasons on loan with Wigan and Wolves, and then spent all of 2017-18 with Fulham in the Championship, where he made 24 total appearances (with 22 in the league) and scored four goals and two assists.

He has so far made 13 first team appearances and scored one goal for Liverpool across three seasons, with eight appearances coming in league action.
