Ex International Ike Shorunmu has hailed Coach Gernot Rohr for bringing in Dele Alampasu and Matthew Yakubu to the Eagles squad to take on Tunisia and Côte d’Ivoire next month.

In a chat with www.brila.net, the former Samsunspor goalkeeper said he is hoping that the newly invited goalkeepers live up to expectations of the team’s handlers.

”We need to give kudos to the handlers of the team for making this invited, right now we are all spectators watching what is going on and what the goalkeepers will offer,” Shorunmu said.

“Whoever is being invited into the team, I believe they are good due to the judgement of the coaches, now, it depends on the players to show their abilities to the coaches and the entire fans of football in Nigeria.”

The Super Eagles, now ranked 29th in the world and third in Africa, will take on the Elephants on 9th October and four days later, will engage the Carthage Eagles, who are second in Africa in the rankings.

Both games have been arranged by the Nigeria Football Federation to prepare the Eagles for the next rounds of 2022 AFCON qualifiers, home and away against Sierra Leone in November.
