With most Nigerians worried following talk that Nigeria’s current track sensation, Divine Oduduru could be poached by another country and forced to switch allegiance, technical committee member of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, Olalekan Soetan has come out to state that he doesn’t see such happening.
Many believe he could end up like Francis Obikwelu who at a time ran for Nigeria, but was approached by Portugal and ended up winning medals for the European country.
Speaking with www.brila.net, Soetan highlighted that Oduduru is and has always been a project of Delta State coupled with the help he has always received from Blessing Okhagbare Iguotegunor, especially when he was out injured, he doesn’t see Oduduru ending up with another country.
“Oduduru Divine is more of a project of Delta State, the state invested so much in him, and also personally, Blessing also helped him during his difficult period”
“I can confidently say that the fear of losing him to another country is not there anymore because he also was able to come back and represent Nigeria at the African championship which he won silver medal”.
It is believed that Oduduru can win a medal for the country, especially with his current form, at the 2020 Olympic Games.
