Sokari is King in Tunisia! Ends CS Sfaxien’s six-year trophy drought

Nigerian winger Kingsley Sokari has picked up his first major silverware with Club Sportif Sfaxien following Saturday’s 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Étoile du Sahel in the Tunisian Cup.

Sokari, who joined Sfaxien in 2015 from Enyimba, came off the bench as a second half substitute. The Nigerian international didn’t score though.

It was a stalemate; both sides failing to find the back of the net in regulation and extra-time of the Cup final.

In the penalty shoot-outs, the sides failed to convert two kicks of the initial five, needing sudden death kicks as decider.

Étoile du Sahel failed to convert a second kick in sudden death turning the advantage to Sfaxien.

It was an invitation too tempting to resist and defender Nassim Hnid put his kick away to condemn Étoile to consecutive defeats in the final and hand Juventus El Arab their first domestic title in six years.

This year’s Tunisian Cup was named in honor of the Country’s former President, Beji Caid Essebsi.
