Solskjaer heaps praises on Nigerian forward after netting first United goal

Manchester manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he’s pleased performance of Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo after scoring his first goal for the Club on Thursday’s Europa league game.

The Nigerian striker was handed his first Manchester United start in place of injured Anthony Martial and grabbed the chance with both hands after scoring United’s second from a Juan Mata’s pass as they thrash Club Brugge 5-0 at Old Trafford.

Ighalo has now netted his first goal in four matches for the club and Solksjaer went describe him as natural striker.

“Odion was up front there doing what he does. He’s a target man, we can play up to him, he can hold it and he’s got Bruno (Fernandes) and Juan (Mata) next to him so he’s got runners there.

“As a fellow striker myself, I know how important that first goal is. He has been close a couple of times, you can see he sniffs goals, he wants to be there where it sometimes hurts but with that goal as well, he is sharp in his head.

“As the ball is played over to Juan, he spins and is on the six-yard line when Juan puts it there. That’s a natural striker.” The Norwegian said in the post match.

Meanwhile Manchester United advance to the round of 16 of UEFA Europa league with a 6-1 aggregate win over their Belgian counterparts.
