Luciano Spalletti has opened up on why he took off Victor Osimhen during Napoli’s tie with Roma on Sunday.
Osimhen scored a wonder goal as the Serie A leaders pipped Jose Mourinho’s men 2-1 at the Diego Maradona’s Stadium.
Osimhen was badly tackled in the second half of the game and layed on the pitch, before Spalletti substituted him.
Many thought the striker sustained injury as result of tackle, but the Italian coach said he replaced for another reason entirely.
“You can’t always play the same guys and forget what you saw during the week from the others,
“We have to take into account what everyone does, how eager they all are to show what they can do. Otherwise, we are not complete coaches.
“At the start of the season when Osimhen was injured, Raspadori and Simeone allowed us to win the Champions League group, so it is not fair to just discard them now.” He said.
Osimhen leads the Serie A chart with 14 goals from 16 games this season.
