Dakkada FC suffered their first defeat of the 2020-2021 Nigeria professional football league season after going down 1 – 0 to Lobi Stars on Sunday.
Lobi Stars hosted Dakkada at the Aper Aku stadium in one of the match day fixtures and it was Kabir Dogo’s side that came out on top after 90 minutes.
Lobi settled quickly into the game and should have taken the lead very early in the game, but striker Ossy Martins was guilty of missing glorious chances.
Lobi Stars forward trio of Martins, Chinonso Okonkwo and Zenke Thomas were lively all through the match and continued to torment Dakkada’s back four.
Lobi got their reward in the 15th minute as Mathias Samuel scored from a direct free kick to put the side ahead.
Dakkada’s defender Olawale Odeyeni brought down Chinonso Okonkwo in a dangerous area and Samuel stepped up and punished them with a delightful kick – his second goal from dead ball situations this season.
Lobi went into the break with the lead and Dakkada FC failed to record a single shot on target in the first 45 minutes.
The first chance of the second half fell to Lobi Stars, Ossy Martins was brought down in the vital area by Ubong Idio in the 54th minute, but Ebube Duru failed to convert free kick.
Lobi Stars’ strings of misses were punished in the 71st minute, as Christian Ekong headed home an equaliser for Dakkada from a well taken corner kick by Ubong Williams.
However with just few minutes left in the game, Dakkada shot themselves in the foot by conceding a last minute penalty kick.
Arinze Obuka was penalized for fouling Chinonso Okonkwo in the penalty area and Austin Ogunye made no misteke as he sent Thomas Emekhudu the wrong way.
The win took Lobi Stars to 3rd on the log and Kabir Dogo side will play Rangers in match day 6 on the 24th January, 2021.
