Standing Ovation in Egypt for Cameroon Legend and U23 Coach Rigobert Song

Cameroon football legend Rigobert Song took charge of his first match in a competitive tournament as Coach of the U23 national team, Friday, in the CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations.

Song, who earned 137 caps for the Indomitable Lions, was appointed Coach of the U23 team last year, leading the team’s bid for a Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games ticket in Egypt.

In his team’s opening group A game against Ghana’s Black Meteors, Cameroon were forced to a 1-1 result, the Lions conceding late on to share points.

Song’s arrival at the Cairo International Stadium was greeted with loud cheers from the stands, as he made his way to the dugout.

The former Liverpool and Trabzonspor man wore his signature dreadlocks and looked dapper in blazer suit and zip-up jacket.

The 43 year-old’s next game will be against Mali, who lost 1-0 to host Egypt 1-0 and sit bottom of the standings.
