Coach Stanley Eguma, says he is satisfied to reach the next round of CAF Confederation, but admitted his boys faced a difficult opponent in Futoro Kings.
Rivers United and Futuro Kings played out a 3 – 3 draw on aggregate after two legs, but the Nigerian side secured their place in the next via penalty shoot out.
Speaking after the second-leg in Port Harcourt on Sunday, Eguma said the visitors made life difficult for his team, but he’s happy to go through to the next round.
“It was not an easy game, it was a difficult game, but I thank God and the players too. We put on a spirited effort even when we conceded that goal against run of play.
“Today, we have decided to win, we outplayed our opponents and got two early goals, we should have increased the tally before they got their goal which kept us per, but I think it was a good game today and we have qualified for the next round,” He said.
Rivers United will play South Africa Premier soccer league side, Bloemfontein Celtics in the next round.
