Steve Odey casts doubt over U23 AFCON availability

Dream Team VII attacker Stephen Odey has casted doubt over his availability for the crucial upcoming CAF U-23 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Odey featured for the team in their double legged clash with Sudan, which the team won 5-1 on aggregate to book their place at the tournament billed for November in Egypt.

Odey told after the team’s qualifications that he’s not sure of his availability for the tournament, because of it falls outside the FIFA calendar which will make difficult for his Club Genk to sanction his departure.

“The most important thing is the team’s victory, and the qualifications into the next round and it’s also great we make the fans happy”.

“Well, I will be with my team (Club), but I wish them best of luck , because the season will still be on in Europe, so I can say I will be available for Egypt or not.” Odey said.

Odey joined Gent from FC Zurich of Switzerland and has been included in the Belgian Club UEFA Champions League team .

The news of Odey’s uncertain availability for the AFCON is a big blow for Coach Imama Amakapabo who is looking forward to prosecute the tournament with his best players.
