Glasgow Rangers boss, Steven Gerrard has explained why Joe Aribo was left out of the Europa league match with Benfica on Thursday.

Aribo was left out of the squad on Thursday night as Rangers were forced to a 2-2 draw against Benfica at the Ibrox.

In his post-match reaction Steven Gerrard confirmed that the Nigerian midfielder sat out the match due to stomach complaints.

Gerrard said: “He was unwell. He had a stomach complaint [on Wednesday] night. Hopefully, he will be available for the weekend.

The Rangers Boss refuted claims that the player tested positive for COVID-19.

“It’s important to say it is not Covid-related. He was negative on his test before people start putting two and two together.”
