Stoke City boss O’Neil hails  Mikel’s impact on the Potters

Stoke City manager Michael O’Neil has heaped praised of former Super Eagles Captain John Mikel Obi for his good form in the pre-season matches.

 

Mikel put in a man of the match performance for the Potters in their last pre-season match against the premier league side, Newcastle United on Saturday.

 

It would be recalled that the 33-year-old former Chelsea midfielder was also on target in Stoke City’s flawless win over Shrewsbury a few weeks ago.

 

Mikel, who joined the Potters on a free transfer this summer got big praise from his manager, who said his arrival has made their midfield stronger.

 

“In midfield, I thought we were very strong with Powell, Clucas, and John Obi. They looked very strong in there, John is proving to be a good bargain afterward” O’Neil said.

 

Mikel who lasted for 75 minutes against the Magpies and is expected to be in the line up when Stoke City face Millwall in their Championship opener next Saturday.
