Abia Warriors remain bottom of NPFL table after a 1 – 3 home defeat to Jigawa Golden Stars on Wednesday.
The Warriors have lost their opening three matches and needed a turnaround to halt the rut, but an impressive second half display from Jigawa GS compounded their woes.
Imama Amapakabo’s side has now failed to pick a point from their opening four league matches; losing twice on the road and two more at home.
The Easterners scored the first goal of the game in the 7th minute, after Utibe Archibong headed in from Nzube Anaezemba’s free kick.
But, the visitors found a way back into the contest, against all odds, as Olasukanmi Quadiri scored the leveler following a scramble in Warriors goal area.
Abia Warriors had opportunity to regain their lead in the 59th minute, after Nzube Anaezemba won a penalty, however Fatai Abdullahi Oluwadayo stepped and smashed the spot kick against the cross bar.
In the 74th, Abia Warriors found themselves trailing for the first time in the game after Musa Ali set up Stone Samuel who beat his marker before firing into the net.
Jigawa Golden Stars wrapped up the points with five minutes remaining, Mohammed Gidado played a perfect ball to Samuel who went on to complete his brace.
The victory is Jigawa Golden Stars’ first away win since 2008, spanning a run of 34 games (2D 32L).
