South Africa national team coach Stuart Baxter has downplayed the personal history he had with Nigeria as he remains the only coach to have guided the Bafana Bafana to a win against Nigeria.
While Nigeria have had German coach Gernot Rohr in charge of their team for the better part of a year, South Africa will see this match as the start of a new era under Stuart Baxter if they defeat Nigeria in tomorrow’s 2019 AFCON qualifier.
Baxter is entering his second spell in charge of Bafana Bafana and he’s aware that there is a huge task ahead of him by starting their AFCON qualifier campaign with a win against the Super Eagles.
Former Kaizer Chief boss stated that history won’t play any role in Saturday’s game against Nigeria.
“The current team is different from what we use to have and so history has no part ahead of the clash between my team and the Super Eagles.
“We are going to play our game and fight for a win, Baxter said,”.
Although South Africa has never beaten Nigeria in a competitive game, Baxter still believes his side can come out victorious.
