The Super Eagles had their first training session under new head coach Eric Chelle in Kigali on Tuesday, as preparations intensified for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda.
With all invited players in camp except Alhassan Yusuf who is set to arrive from Major League Soccer in the United States, Chelle now has almost a full squad to work with.
Camp kicked into full swing on Monday with a gym session, focusing on recovery and fitness after their travels.
However, Chelle made an early statement with his approach, closing Tuesday’s training session to the media and public.
Unlike his predecessors, the former Mali coach has prioritized a controlled environment to ensure his players remain focused.

Although journalists were not permitted to observe the full session, a short video showed the players engaging in light drills and ball movement exercises likely to help them shake off any jet lag.
Sources within the camp indicate that more intensive tactical work took place behind closed doors, as Chelle looks to make an immediate impact on the squad.
The Super Eagles are scheduled for two more training sessions before Friday’s match against Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium.
Following the game, the team will travel to Uyo for their second qualifier against Zimbabwe on March 25.
Rwanda Suffer Setback as Key Defenders Leave Camp
Meanwhile, Rwanda’s preparations for the fixture suffered a blow, as defender Fitina Omborenga and his younger brother, midfielder Yunusu Nshimiyimana, were released from camp following the death of their father.
The Rwandan Football Association (FERWAFA) confirmed their departure, stating:
“They were given permission to leave the camp and attend the burial of their deceased father.”
Both players were part of head coach Adel Amrouche’s 28-man squad that had been training for their upcoming matches against Nigeria and Lesotho.
Their absence could weaken Rwanda’s backline as they look to defend their position at the top of Group C.
Nigeria, currently fifth in the standings, will be looking to kickstart their qualification campaign with a strong performance in Kigali.
