Super Eagles Boss Rohr undecided over Akpeyi, Ezenwa and Alampasu

Super Eagles Boss Rohr undecided over Akpeyi, Ezenwa and Alampasu

Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr, will have a hand full of his three invited goalkeepers as the team begins full training today in Uyo, ahead of the Friday Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Cameroon.

Rohr has stated that he is yet to decide between South Africa based Daniel Akpeyi and CHAN Eagles captain, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who will start in goal against Cameroon on Friday.

However, Rohr has disclosed that he decided to retain Akpeyi, who plays for South African side, Chippa United, in the Super Eagles squad because of his experience.

Rohr described the 31-year-old as the most experienced shot-stopper in the current Nigeria set-up ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon.

“We have Akpeyi, we have Ikechukwu Ezenwa, we have Dele Alampasu, we will see,” Rohr said.

“We have a local goalkeeper, we have a very young one and we have another one (Akpeyi) who is more experienced. He is playing in South Africa, and we will see with our goalkeeper coaches to determine who will start the game.”

The battle for who will man the Super Eagles post became open, after the withdrawal of first choice goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, who is currently battling cancer from the team.
